-An original 19th century Breguet “humpback” travel clock once owned by Caroline Bonaparte, Queen of Naples has returned home to the museum bearing the name of its famous creator, setting a record price in the process. At a Christie’s sale at the Hotel Bergues in Geneva on May 11, 2009, fierce bidding ensued, which concluded when the Breguet museum made the winning bid of 723,000 Swiss Francs. The figure soared past the original pre-sale estimate of SFr 240,000-380,000. This particular silver-cased Breguet clock (No. 2655) had been in the Bonaparte family since 1812, when it was sold to Napoleon Bonaparte’s younger sister Caroline Murat for the sum of 4,000 Francs. One of the earliest examples of carriage clocks constructed by the Breguet firm, No. 2655 features calendar with digital displays, a moon phase indicator, an alarm and a repeating complication. Winding is accomplished via a key attached to a silver chain. Hublot has so many colored Big Bang watches for women that is no longer gives them unique titles, merely descriptive names such as “Black Pink Bang,” which aren’t nearly as exciting as the timepieces they represent. Sure this new watch presents little new to the segment or the product line, but it still looks attractive and has the same level of allure as the rest of the bold women’s Big Bang watches. These are high-class fashion watches with enough quality and sophistication to please a watch lover, but the real allure is in the beautiful and loud styling that many women crave. You have to ask yourself when a pink on black watch fits – of course the answer to this question is up to the buyer who will no doubt appreciate the unique mix of colors. The watch case is 41mm wide in mostly black ceramic, while materials such as titanium, tungsten, composite resin, and rubber make up most of the rest of the watch. The strap is pink toned alligator (with rubber in the middle for a nice flexible feeling). The dial retains the still popular all matte black façade with black on black hands and hour indictors (this has always been a flattering look on the Big Bang series). The bezel is particularly “girly” being lined with 48 pink baguette-cut sapphire jewels (2.23 carats total). The contrasting look of dark industrial function and femininity makes for a unique fashion statement. Inside the watch is an automatic mechanical HUB4300 chronograph movement seen though a sapphire caseback window (the rotor is made of tungsten carbide). In addition to the pink alligator strap, there is a black PVD steel bracelet available which will make for an impressively aggressive women’s watch complete with dainty pink sapphires – what a look.
